Artistic Statement
Not all stories are created equal. Each one carries a different weight, leaves a different impact, and takes a different journey. One of the most interesting ways to study theatre is by tracking how the creation of art aligns with the state of the world. We create the things we want to see. When sh*t hits the fan, we want escapism. When we’re ready to grieve and connect, we want real, deep storytelling. No matter where the world stands, art is a constant; it never leaves our side. Art is humanity’s greatest partner.
For my entire life, I’ve connected most strongly with complex storytelling. I am the type of person who wants to face her demons by seeing them in other people. Sure, I can watch flashy tap numbers all day long and leave the theater with a big ‘ole smile on my face, but when I can watch honest human connection, I leave inspired.
Now, don’t get me wrong - I love a good tap dance, and it, too, can be more than just an 11 o’clock number. The sharing of rhythm, artistic expression, and energy through Hoofing is like no other. Any art can be meaningful and full of intent if it is created with that kind of focus and objective.
If there is one gift I could give myself, it would be to create art that inspires others in the way it continuously inspires me. As I said, art is a constant. The passing down of storytelling cannot die until it perishes with humanity itself. Our existences rely directly on each other
